Tuesday, June 3, 2008

hello again..

Well, since no one wants to blog, i might as well do it.

So, today we went over the electric fields worksheet. (questions 4-10)

Then, we did the electric fields review sheet questions 1-3.

So basically we finished the worksheets today because there's a test tomorrow!!
That's right, we have a physics test tomorrow.
So don't forget to study !!

=)

today's class

Hey guys ... almost forgot to blog today =|

In today's class we went over the questions from the booklet electric fields. ( questions 1-4)
After that, we also went over the three questions 1-3 from the electric fields worksheet.

For today's homework , we have to do questions 4-10 from the electric fields worksheet

use the formula
N=q/e

e= 1.6x10^-19

( check the blog for today's lesson)

And last but not least, we were given the physics review for the upcoming exam.

Well, that's all what we did today =)
( sorry for blogging so late =| )

Static & Kinetic Friction

Today for the first 10 minutes in class we finished up our labs on Friction. Next we corrected our friction worksheets, and received an overview on forces.

Monday, May 26, 2008

friction lab

Guess what, it's now 10:45 and remember the rule, if the person who supposed to describe passes 10:30 someone else has to do so.
Today's class wasn't so bad, the class was nice and not so busy.
Mrs. K. handout a lab sheet on friction, which took the all class.
And i think that's all about today's class.
Have a great night everyone.

Gravitational fields

Since nobody blogged last night, i decided to blog this saturday about last friday's class.
The class was so nice and suite, first we went over the two questions signed out in last thursday's class.
After that he handout another sheet to work on, in the class for ten minutes the "physics 30s falling and Air Resistance".
As soon as we finished the questions we went over the same sheet.
Then he handout the static friction sheet to read in the class.
At the end of the class he handout the friction worksheet to work on.
That's all about last Friday's class.

Gravitational fields

Once again, Good evening ladies and gentlemen.
Today's class was nice a quite, everybody was down listening carefuly the lesson.
The substitute teacher went over the Gravitational fields workheet questions 1-4.
Then we went over the accelerated motion II sheet questions 1-3, after he finished the question number 3 of the sheet, he subsequently said that we have to take the questions 4-5 and try them at home. To make things clear these two question weren't signed as a homework but all he said is that if you want to try go ahead, if you don't is all good.
For Ms. K the class wasn't so bad today, but we all missed you.
See you next week.

Apparent Weight Problems

hi again everyone,

Today was an easy class but we still learned new things. first we did some practice work sheets and she gave us something that like a cheat sheet but after those handouts and doing the sample problems she gave us a homework #5-8(sorry but i don't have the paper beside right now so i don't know the tittle of the paper.) and thats all about it (thats all i can remember :D hihihihi)

Apparent Weight Problems

Apparent Weight

hi everyone,

today May 14 2008, we went over the test that we did on Tuesday and i don't think Ms K posted up the answer but anyways after that we did a lab when we were about finishing up our work we watch some roller coaster videos and a fat kid that almost fell a roller coaster. and that all about it and oh yeah the bell wasn't working today.

May 13, 2008

Hi again,

So today we had our Dyanamics Unit Test, I think I did okay?! But anyway, after that Ms. K gave us booklets on the new unit called GRAVITATIONAL FIELDS. She read four pages of the booklet while we highlighted the important sentences. Then classes ended!

We are doing a Lab tomorrow!

YEEES!
Last scribe of the semester :)
Come on guys don't be lazy and finish already!

Bye blogger.com :(

May 12, 2008

Hi everyone :)

I know, I'm sorry Kamil, you said you would blog but I think I'll just finish my last two scribe by doing yesterday and for today's class.

Okay, so Monday we went over the worksheet that she gave us last week. It was NEWTON'S LAWS OF MOTION and if you had any questions before the test you should of asked. We were shown different ways of using the equation for acceleration and how to isolate mass to solve a problem. There was also a question on using the Pythagorean Theorem. Ms. K mentioned that those questions were as hard as it got. We also went over the Free-Body Diagrams worksheet and that was fairly easy. Okay that's it!

"Force and Acceleration" Lab

Hey! Yo! Hiya! Wassup? Jasmin here, on the blog of her favorite physics class. Put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care! On this ugly Wednesday, we got right into it and did a lab. She demonstrated it at the front table first then handed out a sheet called "Force and Acceleration". We were required to use one of those giant boards, a cart, three weights (50 g, 100 g, and 200 g), string (approx. 1 m), a bent paper clip, some washers, a pulley, a timer, and five pieces of timer tape (approx. 1 m). First we needed to make the cart travel at a constant speed with out the weights. To do that, we put washers on the paper clip, connected it to one end of the string, and connected the other end to the cart. That was the basic set up. We needed to time the cart's acceleration with different weights (50 g, 100 g, 150 g, 200 g, 250 g.) Count every fifth dot to make a 'tock' then measure the tock. do the "Data and Calculations" part in the booklet. We couldn't complete it today, so we have time tomorrow to do it. That's the end of that Lab.

WOW! Check that out! This is my eighth post! That means... I'm the first one to finish their scribing life! WOOT! I am oh so awesome. =D Have fun doing the rest of your posts people! =)

=)

HELLOOOO!!!! =)

Today we had a chance to go over the test that we took last friday. the answers are already posted (check the blog)

Then, we watched the video about newton's first law (law of inertia). We learned that nothing moves by itself. An object that is not moving will stay still, an object that moves in a straight line with the same speed, will keep moving.

We had to write seven points while watching the video.

WE'RE DOING A LAB TOMORROW =)

well, that's all that we did today =)

happy birthday joseph and george!

Interpreting Graphs

Good evening to all eight of my physics comrades... and Ms. Kozoriz of course! Once again, the great Jasmin defeated you ALL for the position of today's scribe. What now?! XD Anyways... Today we were learning how to interpret different kinematic graphs. We received, went over, and discussed various work sheets. We first went over the sheet we got from the sub yesterday called "Acceleration". Then we went over the second sheet the sub gave us called "Information in Kinematics Graphs" After completing that, she distributed a sheet called "Instantaneous Velocity". On that sheet we needed to calculate the slope and draw tangent lines. Once that was finished, we went over "Chapter 5: Study Guide", which we had for such a long time.

waadaaaaps (: hi guys! oh boy, i miss this site . yeaaah okay anyways, today we didn't really do much..

Oh Canada
Announcements

and then..
Ms. K handed back our lab which was " Motion on an inclined plane " because most of us did the graphing part wrong. So, she gave us time to fix our mistakes. Then later on we corrected the Acceleration and Accelerated motion sheet which was handed out yesterday. So anyways each of us had to do atleast one question on the board AND IT WAS FUN (: yeah.

AND THEN.. oh we have homework/practice questions
on the green textbook page 82 numbers 1, 2, 5, 8, 10, 11, & 16 .
YOU GUYS BETTER DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
.. because i forgot my textbook in my locker = (yeah, sorry Ms. K)

okie doinks, i think that was all for today.

Graphs

Good evening mortals! No one scribed, so Jasmin's gonna do it! Too bad suckas! XD Well... we started off the class by going over "Chapter 4: Study Guide" She then handed out a sheet that said "Constant Velocity" on the side (it's horizontal). She explained what was happening with each graph and how to find different variables. Once she explained that she gave us a booklet that says "Constant Velocity" on the top. That booklet basically explains what she explained. She gave us another sheet called "Acceleration" which consisted of problems dealing with the formulas and we'll be looking over it tomorrow morning.

Saturday, April 26, 2008

April 25 2008

Today we had a substitute teacher. I was tempted to skip but my conscience (Jasmin) did not allow me to. He had told us to finish up our lab assignments given to us yesterday. When that was completed he handed out two sheets for us to do:

Chapter 4 Study Guide
Chapter 5 Study Guide

Good class. Gotta have more without Kozoris in it. All jokes all jokes =D, thanks for your tissue.

"Motion on an Inclined Plane" Lab

Good evening peeps! Jasmin's in the house! Raise the roof! We started off today's class by correcting the "Sample problem" worksheet. Once we completed that, Ms. K gave us a lab to do called "Investigation 2.1: Motion on an Inclined Plane". It required four bricks, a cart, a ramp, a timer, and ticker tape. The hand out describes what is needed to be done with the information collected. We had the rest of the class to work on it and she's going to give us time tomorrow to work on it. The booklet called "Appendix 3.8 : Motion Interpreting Position-Time Graphs" was due today, but if you didn't complete it, shame on you! Tisk, tisk... Just kidding! =D She's allowing you to hand it in tomorrow. =)

Once again, the next scribe is... Joseph because he was suppose to scribe today, but instead I did it because I'm awesome! =D

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Today's class

Today, we received a sheet called "position vs time". We had to figure out which overlay represents a linear relationship and a parabolic relationship. We also had to compare the change in velocity between the two overlays.

Then, we received a new sheet ( sample problem) that we worked on in class. In this sheet, we have to find the velocity , distance and displacement of each question.

Reminder: The appendix 3.8 : motion interpreting position-time graphs booklet is due tomorrow!! It's the 3 pages booklet that we received yesterday!! AND LAST ANNOUNCEMENT, I think we're doing a lab tomorrow!! So don't skip !! =)

hehehehehe =D

Tuesday's class =)

Yesterday, we finished and went over the sheet "chapter 3 study guide".
After that, we received a new sheet called "Appendix 3.8 Motion: Interpreting Position-Time Graphs.

And that's about all that we did yesterday, I think. Well, that's all i can remember !
hehehehe

April 21 2008

Good Evening good evening

Exciting day today.

Ms. K brought us new toys to play with today. It was a gadget that could tell how far, and how fast you were going from a point. We were given different line graphs that we were to copy using the technology given to us. There was a position time graph that we had to copy, and a velocity time graph we had to copy.

After we were done she gave us a sheet called "Chapter 3 Study Guide".

That's it for the day. Good class good class.

HELLO FELLOW FRIENDS :)

On Thursday we had our Unit Test: Nature of Light II

Today we got our tests back and started on our new unit called: Kinematics

We covered on these topics Position and Distance, Vectors and Scalars, Time, Position and Displacement, Average Speed and Average Velocity. Which are all found in the booklet that we got yesterday.

Today we got two worksheets, one in class: KINEMATICS-FRAME OF REFERENCE
and one to hand-in on Monday: Appendix 3.6 Describing Motion in Various Ways

*NOTE: Appendix 3.6 Describing Motion in Various Ways is DUE MONDAY !

Have a wonderful fun-filled weekend everyone :D

Physics 30S April 15, 2008

Today in class we learned how the properties of light interact with photocells and the Photoelectric effect. We learned how different light frequencies and different threshold frequencies, and the type of cathode metal affects the current of the photocell. We also went over how both the Wave theory and Corpuscular theory could be used and when they can be used when studying the properties of light.

Monday, April 14, 2008

April 14 2008

Good evening good evening

Today we started off quite quickly. We worked on a pink sheet called Chart for Evaluating the Models of Light where we would prove or disprove different theories.

We read many topics in our booklet as well including:

4.2 Early Attempts to Produce and Interference Pattern in Light
4.3 Young's Experiment
4.4 Young's Experiment: Interference at Three Angles
4.5 Young's Experiment and Deriving a Useful Equation

Once our reading was completed we continued to do an experiment. We took a ring stand with a clamp and clamped a meter stick right in the middle. Below the meter stick we placed a lamp, and we covered it with different colored films, then we took 2 slides that had a little slit that you could look through. We distanced ourselves 2 meters away from the meter stick and looked through the slit, and we found out how many nodal lines there were in 10 centimeters

And that's about it!
The next scribe shall be: Dana!

Wave Theory of Light

Good evening humans! Jasmin's up in here and I am once again the scribe. On Friday we started the class off by reading the section 'Wave Theory of Light' in the pink booklet. We read all the sections in that section. We noticed that a lot of things in that section are similar to the 'Waves' unit. Such things like reflection, refraction, and diffraction. She then gave us a pink sheet entitled 'Chart for Evaluating the Models of Light'. We did a similar sheet for 'Newton's Particle Theory' and our task was to do the same for the 'Wave Theory of Light'. That's what went down during Friday's class.

Next scribe is.... Joseph again because he told me to pick him! =D

Thursday, April 10, 2008

april 10 2008 george

The first thing we did in class was correct the sheet she gave us named appendix 2.4: Chart for Evaluating the Models of Light and then whe went on to the Nature of Light part 2 booklet and read from page 8 to page 11, we read 2.0 Determining the Speed of Light until 2.4 Measuring the Speed of Light:Michelson. After reading, she gave us a sheet called BLM 2.10 Contribution to the Determination of the Speed of LIght for homework. and thats it :D

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

Wednesday April 9 2008

Today was a remarkable day (weather-wise). We read 1.6 Newton's Corpuscular Theory and Dispersion, and 1.7 Difficulties with Newton's Corpuscular Theory.

1.6 Newton's Corpuscular Theory

Dispersion - When white light passes through a prism, the light is refracted by different amounts, and the colors of the spectrum result

1.7 Difficulties with Newton's Corpuscular Theory
When light refracts, some of the light is reflected. newton had difficulty explaining the phenomenon of partial refraction, and partial reflection.

We were then given a sheet of different phenomena's, and were to explain supporting arguments, and counter arguments of the phenomena.

A surprise bus ridership was announced, thus cutting our class time by like 30 seconds. Bus ridership went quick.

That was basically it for that class so I guess the next scribe shall be:

Daureen wohoo!

Nature of Light: Newton's Theories

Good evening peoples! It's Jasmin up in the HIZZ HOUSE!!!

In class we read the following from the pink booklet:
1.3 Newton's Corpuscular Theory and Rectilinear
1.4 Newton's Corpuscular Theory and Reflection
1.5 Newton's Corpuscular Theory and Refraction

So we basically talking about Newton's corpuscular theories (obviously). After reading all that, Mrs. K gave us a hand out entitled "Newton's Particle Model for the Refraction of Light" which required us to do a lab. Our task was to measure the angle of incidence and angle of refraction for three angles to the right of the normal (the 90˚ mark on the wood) and three angles to the left. We would then have to record it and then solve for the index of refraction (your answers should all be the same if you did it correctly).

It was kinda funny how everyone was confused at the beginning and everyone kept looking at each other to figure out what we were suppose to do. XD Anywhoots... Next scribe is Joseph.

Enjoy! =D

Newton's Corpuscular Theory of Light

April 7, 2008
Today in class we got our nature of light tests back and looked over it for mistakes on the smart board.
Afterwards we got new booklets which i nature of light part 2: the wave and particle models.
on page 2 of the booklet we read section 1.2:the nature of light: Early greece to 20th century.
then we were assigned to read section 1.3: Newtons corpuscular theory and rectilinear propagation.

To all who visits,

Hello. We have started our new unit in physics which was called Nature of light: Part 1
On monday, we had a sub and he gave us instructions and so we had to read pages 2-8 on the pink handout booklet. Then, we were given some worksheets to work on and these were :

Nature of Light part 1 : exercises 1 and 2
Significant figures
Determining significant digits

I'm pretty sure there are more than 3 worksheets given, but i can't seem to fine the other one.
But moving on, today we corrected the 2 worksheets: significant figures and finding significant digits. Also, we started our lab where we have to gather 8 different circular lids and find its diameter and the circumference. I think this is all we did in class today, there aren't many informations but i hope it'll help you catch up, who ever was away.
(:

the next scribe would be Jabahe. (sorry if i spelled that wrong!)

FRIDAY

On Friday's class we did a test and the test was about the sound unit.
then after the test Ms. K dispersed a sheet that we had to do an experiment
called "MYSTERY BOX". Then she gave us out a new unit sheet " NATURE OF LIGHT"Part:1.
That's all we did in today's class. Have a great and happy weekend.

Friday, March 14, 2008

Tuesday class

On tuesday, we learned about the different frequencies of different notes on a piano. Different notes can be found by ratios such as 4:6:8(in terms of a middle c). We also learned about the different octaves and how they are related to the next octave.

The Sounds of Straws

Good evening my fellow physics classmates! =D Mrs. K started off the class by writing little reminders on the board. She then distributed three sheets. One was entitled "Career of the Month", the other was "Sound Intensity Levels for Various Sources", and the last one was "Decibel Scale". We were given ten minutes to complete "19 Transparency Worksheet" and after the ten minutes elapsed, we went over it and was given the correct answers. She then dispersed two lab sheets entitled "Singing Straws" and "Making a Straw Oboe". There were questions that were supposed to be answered with the lab, but once we discovered what a simple straw can do, we were just so caught up into actually making the sounds and how we could change the sounds. Because of that, no one was able to finish the questions, so, Mrs. K allowed us to submit our papers the next day. That's all folks! =D

REMINDER:
"Singing Straws" and "Making a Straw Oboe" due tomorrow
Don't forget! =)

Next Scribe is... DANA!
His name isn't crossed off the list yet! Scribe twice! XP

We received our tests today on Waves in Two Dimensions that we did last week, and we went over it. We also received our experiment called "Sound and Their Sources" that we did earlier this week. We went over a sound worksheet called uhhh "Sound". For homework we were told to do question 11, 12, 14, and 16 in the yellow booklet. Also for homework we were given a sheet called Grade 11 Physics: Unit 1.3 Sound. We also looked at two Simulations. The first simulation was about the speed of sound through different mediums, and the second simulation was on beats. The two links to the simulation is right below this post.

Today's class! =)

In today's class, we went over the waves in two dimension test. After that we corrected the four questions that were assigned yesterday.

We also got our lab back.

Then we watched a video about the waves and sound. It turns out that everybody have different sound waves when they talk. The video also showed some of the things that we already learned, like wavelengths, amplitude, transverse waves and etc. It also talked about the sound waves of the tuning fork and how the waves can cancel each other if you use two tuning forks with the same frequency and pitch.

And yes, we do have homework!

Well, that's all we did today! By the way, the answers are posted on the blog =)

Joseph is blogging tomorrow!! =P

Hi everyone :)

So today in class we started a new unit called SOUND, and we got a yellow booklet for the unit.

We did a short Lab called Sound and Their Sources and we finished before class ended so we handed it in.

Make sure to read pages 3-8 on the Sound Booklet and do questions on page 27-28 #4, 5,7 and 17 !

See you all tomorrow morning and no school in the afternoon! :D

The next blogger is..

February 28, 08 .

In class today, we went over the questions from the worksheet called Interference Exercises. We also went over the review for Waves in two dimensions. These two were basically a review for tomorrow's test in Waves in two dimensions. Not very much activities but it was a very useful review if you listened and understood each questions done on the overhead and smart board (:

Reminder that there will be a test tomorrow on waves in two dimensions so make the right decision, open your binder and read over those notes, study study !

(: goodluck!

Waves in 2D review

today's class

wow...life goes on...."remember that tomorrow always come after the dark" and believe that tomorrow you will be better than today so we all better work hard to success.
Anyways let's get to the point...today's class was kind of busy
we learned about the Nodal lines, and the teacher showed us how it does on the smart board,
she did handout 2 sheets to work on. we started working on some question in the green book, i don't know if some students finished.

keep in mind that friday we still have a test. Better study, this topic seems difficult.

Refraction Work Sheet

Good evening people! To start a beautiful Tuesday morning, we answered questions on a refraction worksheet entitled "Refraction". Crazy eh? We answered the questions on the almighty Smart Board, so if you need the answers, look below this post. It was basically a work sheet based on using the formulas: n=c / v and ni sinθi = nr sinθr. After we finished that, she gave us a sheet that talks about diffraction, which is entitled "Diffraction". Who would have thought... Anyways... The sheet just sums up the three pages we should read in the booklet "Waves In Two Dimension". We were then assigned to work on questions 5 to 11 in that very same booklet. She gave us the rest of the period to work on those questions and a little booklet called "Waves in Two Dimension - Review" that she gave us as well. It's obviously a review for Friday's test. Speaking of which...

Today's class !!!! =)

In today's class, we corrected the previous sheets that we've been working on. We went over the problems in the booklet, questions #1- #4. We also finished correcting the Snell's law questions. The answers can be found on the blog. After correcting the worksheets, we received three new worksheets to do this weekend (Reflection & Refraction, Exercises-Refraction, and Light-Refraction) .

Well, that's all we did today! I think =\
Reminder: TEST NEXT WEEK!! don't forget to study!!!

Have a great long weekend everybody!!

so who wants to scribe next?!?

Snell's Law Problems

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Febuary 20, 2008

Today in class we did an experiment which shows how light changes in different mediums, we used a semi-circle shaped clear-plastic cup and poured a quarter of water into it. Then we placed it on graph paper on a center like and outlined it. Then we drew lines on the graph that point toward a line on the cup, one on flat side, one on curved side. Then we figured out the angle of incidence and angle of reflection and then divided the sin of angle of incidence by the sin of angle of refraction to get n.

Physics 30S, Feb. 19, 2008

Previously in class, we looked over the law of reflection in circular and parabolic barriers. The 5 question assignment of reflection laws was due and we were assigned to read the waves in two dimensions booklet.

Scribe

Hello,

This is my scribe for February 14. I originally intended my scribe to be uploaded in slideshare using the technology of smartboard. Slideshare led to technical difficulties thus I created image files of my slides instead. ENJOY...

or else.

bonjour tout le monde ! / hello everyone (:

I will be recounting all of the things that we've done in class for the past 2 days ..

Monday - we were given a small, pink sheet of paper that has all the informations we need for our Waves Research Project. But if you have not received this sheet of paper, I will type all the informations later on in this blog.
- we then went to the Maclab to start our research for this project (:

Tuesday - today, we went over all of the 4 worksheets that Rojuane have mentioned earlier.
These worksheets were :
- Periods & Frequency Problems
- 14.5 Wave Properties
- Concept Development Practice Page/ vibrations and waves
- Vocabulary Review
Most of these worksheets are a preparation for tomorrow's test .
TEST! YES! there will be a test tomorrow!! and sorry i know this is quite a late reminder. But do not worry, we can all do a great job on this test if we read pages 3-11 on the green booklet and understand every single bit of it ! (: And remember, those 4 worksheets can be your big helper .
Goodluck ya'll (:
